Why asbestos cement garages are a concern

Many prefab and sectional garages built before 2000 use asbestos cement sheets for the roof and walls. Intact and painted they're low-risk, but weathered, cracked or drilled sheets can release fibres.

How safe removal works

Sheets are removed whole wherever possible to keep fibre release to a minimum, kept damp, then double-wrapped and labelled. The waste goes to a licensed facility and you get a consignment note confirming legal disposal.

Why not DIY

Breaking up asbestos cement — for example by dropping or snapping sheets — releases fibres and creates contaminated debris that's hard to clean up. Professional removal is controlled, documented and usually a single-day job.
